How to prepare

An MMI is a series of short, timed stations, each with its own interviewer and scenario. The AAMC describes typical MMIs as 6 to 10 stations of about five minutes each, though timing varies by school.⁴ Practice reading a prompt, deciding your position quickly, and talking through the issue, the people involved, what you’d do and why.

For a virtual interview, the AAMC recommends a computer or tablet over a phone, with the camera at eye level.⁵

Expect to be asked why Central Michigan University. Its mission is a good place to start: “The Covenant HealthCare College of Medicine at Central Michigan University educates diverse students and trains culturally competent physicians to provide comprehensive health care and services to underserved populations in Michigan and beyond.”⁶ Connect it to something specific you’ve done.
