Requirements

Degree

MBBS (A100), 5-year undergraduate programme, open to both UK and international (non-UK) students; UK home places are described as 'very limited' while international students form the larger intake (unlike most UK medical schools, where international places are the small capped quota). No separate graduate-entry (4-year) programme is currently offered, though graduates meeting entry requirements can apply to the 5-year course. A Foundation Year route also exists.

Prerequisites

  • A-Level AAA (UK) including two sciences with Chemistry, or equivalent degree route
  • GCSE Maths and English at Grade B/5 (UK)
  • UCAT (UK applicants)
  • IELTS 7.0 in all components, or equivalent (international applicants)
  • Satisfactory enhanced DBS/Disclosure Scotland check and Occupational Health clearance
  • Personal reflective statement and at least one academic reference

MCAT

No MCATNo MCAT acceptance found; no dedicated North American route. International applicants are not required to sit UCAT either, but instead complete an MCQ arithmetic test and an English language test as part of an asynchronous MMI.

Also required

Personal reflective statement, split into three set questions (why medicine; how qualifications prepared you; what else you've done to prepare, incl. caring experience) · At least one reference including an academic reference, scored against set criteria · Multiple Mini Interview (MMI): in-person for UK/Preston-based applicants; asynchronous online video MMI for international applicants · MCQ arithmetic test and an English language test (all candidates, alongside the MMI) · Occupational health screening (TB, hepatitis B/C, HIV) after a successful interview · International students pay a £15,000 deposit on receiving an offer · Already a fully GMC-approved awarding body (listed under its new name, 'The University of Lancashire', following the University of Central Lancashire's rebrand approved in December 2024); not on the GMC's 'new schools under review' list

How selection works

Applications read against minimum academic requirements and given an academic score. UK applicants' UCAT results plus personal statement and scored reference determine interview invitation. Multiple Mini Interview (in-person at Preston for UK/some international applicants, or asynchronous online video MMI for most international applicants), plus an MCQ arithmetic test and English language test. Interviewed applicants ranked by MMI score and offers made to the highest-ranking until all places are filled.
