Key facts

  • The typed section has 7 scenarios. Each has 2 questions shown at once, with 3.5 minutes to answer both.
  • Split the time roughly in half per question, and plan for about 20 seconds of reading first.
  • Short, complete answers beat long, unfinished ones. Make your decision and reason clear in the first two sentences.
  • Typing speed matters. Practice under the same timer to find out how much you can write in 3.5 minutes.

After the video section, Casper has 7 typed scenarios. Acuity says each one “contains 2 questions shown at once,” and “you will have 3.5 minutes to type your answers to each set of 2 questions.” The whole test, video and typed, takes an estimated 65 to 85 minutes.1

How to split 3.5 minutes

Because both questions appear together, you can plan before you type:

  1. Read both questions first (about 20 seconds). The second question often builds on the first, so knowing it shapes your first answer.
  2. Answer the first question (about 90 seconds).
  3. Answer the second question (about 90 seconds).
  4. Leave a few seconds to finish your last sentence.

A structure for each answer

Open with your decision and your main reason in one or two sentences. Then add who’s affected and what they need, and what you’d do if your first step didn’t work. If the timer ends early, the most important part is already written.

Keep sentences short. A complete, clear answer reads better than a long one that stops mid-thought.

Typing speed is a real factor

At 3.5 minutes per pair, the number of ideas you can get down depends partly on how fast you type. Time yourself on practice scenarios to see what fits, and work on speed if you keep running out of time. Our free Casper Type Racer lets you practice typing answers against the clock.

The video section works differently: one question at a time, with one minute to record each answer. See Casper video responses.

Questions

How long is each Casper typed response?

There’s no word limit. You have 3.5 minutes to answer both questions in a scenario, so the clock sets the length.

Does spelling count on Casper?

Write clearly enough to be understood, but don’t stop to fix small typos. Finishing both answers matters more than polish.
