Schools with a recorded step

These four schools ask you to record answers on your own, either instead of Casper or alongside it.

Ottawa and Queen’s use the same early-phase MMI from Acuity Insights, the company behind Casper.4 TMU invites every applicant to a Kira Talent assessment of six timed questions, some answered on video and some in writing.5 At NOSM, the interview stage combines a virtual asynchronous MMI with a live virtual panel.1

What changed since last cycle

Ottawa dropped Casper

For 2027 entry, Ottawa lists Casper as not required. The AFMC guide notes that Casper “will be replaced by a new asynchronous MMI in collaboration with other Ontario schools.”1 Ottawa applicants take that early-phase MMI in October, in the same language stream as their application.4

Alberta dropped Casper

The University of Alberta says that “effective the 2025-2026 Admission cycle, the CASPer test is no longer an admission requirement.”2

Two new schools, neither using Casper

Toronto Metropolitan University accepted its first MD class for 2025–26, and Simon Fraser University welcomed its first class in August 2026.1 SFU states plainly: “No, we do not require a Casper test.”3

How schools use your Casper score

This cycle, Casper has 11 scenarios: 4 on video, with 1 minute per answer, and 7 typed, with 3.5 minutes for each pair of questions. Expect 65 to 85 minutes in total.6 The schools that require it don’t all weigh it the same way. Here is what each one states in the AFMC guide.1

McMaster
One third of the formula for interview invitations, alongside GPA and MCAT CARS.
Manitoba
30% of the pre-interview score, with 20% academic GPA and 50% MCAT, plus a minimum threshold.
McGill
20% at the pre-interview stage.
Dalhousie
Used only to decide who gets an interview. Below the minimum score, you aren’t considered.
Laval
Used to pre-select applicants for the MMI.
Memorial
No minimum. Scores in the third and fourth quartiles are recommended.

Queen’s, Montréal, Saskatchewan and Sherbrooke require Casper but don’t publish a weight in the guide.1

Requirements change every cycle. Before you book, check the school’s own admissions page, which each Atlas profile links to.
